It is a strong belief that e-Learning provides better, more efficient and lower cost training than a large amount of classroom training. Many companies are wasting their training budgets by looking for the absolute lowest cost of supply. Training is a very critical part of any company’s ability to operate and management often simply look for the lowest cost supplier as if training is a cost instead of an investment.

That is why MINTRA GROUP urge customers to understand that learning is a very critical part of their workforce management and see e-Learning as a very important part of learning. However, not all e-Learning is created equally and to get the most out of learning, there are three key questions that each company should ask:

  • Is the content valid and represent the correct standard?
  • Is the course structured to encourage learning and retention?
  • How do we know who is taking the courses?


E-Learning, when it is developed correctly, is based on two very important disciplines; one is the subject matter expert and the other is the course designer. Both skill sets are needed to ensure that a student can learn from the course and that the material they are learning is accurate. Individuals absorb and retain knowledge in different ways, sometimes it is through words or pictures and this is reinforced through exercises and assessments.

The real goal of any learning exercise is to transfer knowledge and that is why learning specialists in the design of the courses are used. At the same time, there needs to be someone that is an expert in the training topic (a Subject Matter Expert or SME) that can review the content and make sure it does meet best practices standards. Besides making sure that the courses are correctly designed and accurate the third main question is how do we know who is taking the course? The normal solution to this problem is to have delegates come to a center and use a computer there after showing their identification. Is this the best way? Why make someone come into a center when there are other, more cost effective ways of knowing who is taking a course. MINTRA GROUP use an online system to monitor who is taking a course and can help companies to record and retain evidence of who has taken a course.

Every business today must look for efficient ways to train and deploy their workforce and elearning plays an important role in that process. But, in choosing elearning make sure that it is structured for learning, has accurate content and that you know who is taking the course.

If you only look at cost, then you are probably getting the most expensive solution. Money spent on training that is poorly designed or not correctly audited is wasted and you do not have the trained workforce you expect. A “tick in the box” attitude to training is the costliest solution because you have spent the money and still have a workforce that does not have the needed competency. Worse yet, management believes that they have delivered a great deal – but have they really?
